Including the Imperial Throneworld where the theft of the O'An Lamp occurred nearly two solar cycles ago.
But Lila Cheney was Borrat's prime suspect in that crime. And he vowed to bring her in. No matter what he had to do.
Ever since the Skrull opened their embassy on Throneworld the O'An Lamp had been on display within its walls. And in all that time the ancient alien artifact sat undisturbed in its display case. Not ONCE was there ever any attempt to steal it. But then those humans showed up.
Cheney and her band of musicians who were hired to entertain the local Shi'ar citizenry. The very night that those ape-spawn from that misbegotten mudball, Earth, performed their "music" the O'An Lamp AND its display case vanished. GONE without any clue as to how it was removed. It HAD to be the humans who stole it.
Humans have constantly defied and hampered Skrull activity on Earth for multi-cycles. The biggest offenders were normally the accursed Fantastic Four and the so-called Avengers. The latter once having stopped what was to have been the last great war against the hated Kree. No one else on the artificial world would have had the motivation to commit such a heinous act. Not even the dispised Kree. Who never once DARED to even set foot into the Skrull sector. And, thus, wouldn't even know of the Lamp's existence. (And even if they did those war-happy thugs could never pull off such a crime with the subtilty in which it was committed) How Cheney even knew of it was a mystery Borrat was determined to solve.
But Lila Cheney and her thugs MUST have been the thieves. Especially when Borrat discovered the Earthers never arrived in a spacecraft. There was no record at all of them being on any registered ship. No record of using any of the official stargates. They just appeared seemingly out of nowhere. Some form of unknown teleporter technology HAD to have been used. The same kind of technology that would allow someone to gain entry into the secured Embassy without being detected. Another thing that led Borrat to suspect Cheny was that other thefts took place in or around areas she had performed in. Thefts that were never solved.
Unfortunately, before Morrat could pursue the Cheney group, a great tragedy occurred.
Galactus had consumed the Skrull homeworld.
The investigation was put on hold as Borrat and his men were tasked to assist in rescue, relief and relocation of survivors. It was a mission that lasted nearly two solar cycles. But the mission finally ended and the investigation was resumed. There had been no sign of the O'An Lamp since its theft. But Borrat discovered Cheney was returning to the scene of the crime. She had been invited to perform again in Shi'ar space. Tar'Gatus 19 being the first stop on her tour. Well he would there be waiting for her.
With only his aide, Knorrn, to assist him plans were made for their capture. But on the night of the concert a complication appeared. Cheney had a new member in her troupe. The mutant known, via Earth intelligence reports, as the Dazzler.
This "Dazzler" wasn't considered much of a threat. But still it would be wise to take her down first. So the plan was altered slightly.
Finally the concert was over. The Skrulls knew the suspects planned to stay and take in the sights. So they waited until there were no witnesses.
The Dazzler was stunned first as planned. Unfortunately, once the Dazzler was down, Cheney and her thugs teleported away far faster than any transporter device Borrat knew of. Fortunately the mutant had been left behind. No doubt because beaming her would mean beaming him as well. And they obviously didn't want to contend with an armed Skrull warrior. But Borrat suspected they might come back for the Earth mongrel. So he placed an inhibitor collar on her and hid her from sight. Knorrn then assumed her form and pretended to be her. Borrat's hunch proved to be almost correct. Only Cheney, armed with a rifle, returned. Borrat allowed her to shoot him as he knew his stealth armor would protect him. Believing him down Cheney went over to the disguised Knorrn. And he took her out much the same way Borrat had taken out Dazzler.
While Knorrn went for their starship Borrat placed another inhibitor collar on Cheney. If Cheney's teleportation tricks were the result of a freakish super power that some humans seemed to possess for one reason or another, the collar would nullify it. And if it was the result of technology the collar would scramble the signals making beaming impossible.
The Skrull flying saucer, invisible in stealth mode, landed and shimmered into view long enough for Borrat and the prisoners to board. Gagged to prevent communication, bound to reduce any attempt at physical resistance, the two women were placed on board the ship and then stunned unconscious once more.
The saucer became invisible once again and departed Tar'Gatus 19 without incident. Once the ship was in orbit around the planet's outermost moon the two Skrulls stripped the unconscious women down to undergarments so filmsy it was obvious no weapon or device could be hidden there.
Then they were taken to the lab where they were probed and genetic samples were collected.
After that the women were taken to the "interrogation" room. There they were secured to the mind probe called the Sifter.
Knorrn returned to the cockpit and Borrat prepped the Sifter. He then revived the prisoners.
The universe painfully came back to Alison Blaire. She had hoped it was all a bad dream. But no. It was all too real. She HAD been stunned unconscious by an alien girl who asked for her autograph. She HAD woken up to find herself, and Lila, prisoners of a Skrull. A Skrull who, after placing them in an honest to gosh flying saucer, stunned them unconscious again. And NOW she was awake once more. And she found she, and Lila, had been stripped nearly naked. Still gagged, and still wearing those damned collars that blocked their powers, they both had been rigged up to some sadistic contraption. A device that only a contortionist would have a snowball's chance of enduring. Bent like a pretzel Ali was amazed her spine didn't snap. It still might. Standing in front of them was the creep who kidnapped them. He was holding some device in his hand.
The universe painfully came back to Lila Cheney. Oh Bloody Hell! One look at the Skrull holding the remote, and the Sifter probe on the arch over her head, told her what was going on. She was suspected of a crime and was about to be mind probed. Lila then noticed Alison. Bound up the same way to another Sifter. Poor Ali was in for hell. The Sifter was extremely painful to endure. Her mind might not survive the experience. Lila wasn't sure SHE would survive it either. She wasted no time. Lila couldn't warn her keyboard player what was going to happen. All she could do was build up her own meager defenses against a machine that could very well destroy her mind. She focused. Focused on a song. A song she would sing in her head over and over like a mantra. A Corellain ballad. An angry song about individuality. There would be nothing else in her mind EXCEPT that song.
Borrat activated the Sifter. A beam of light struck the heads of the two Earth women. They jerked against their restraints and screamed through their gags as the beam pierced their minds like thousands upon thousands of hot needles.
For Alison Blaire her life literally flashed before her mind's eye. And on the display monitor behind her. Everything that ever happened to her from birth on up was being replayed. Every experience, every thought, every emotion laid bare. And she screamed and sobbed through it all. Her painful life's story came to an end when the Skrull activated the mind probe. Then there was darkness. Oblivion in which there was silence and no pain.
At the same time Lila Cheney "sang" her mantra song. Oh she screamed like Alison. That couldn't be helped. But the song filled her mind and static filled the monitor.
Borrat saw the results on the monitors behind the Earthers. The Shifter for the one called Dazzler was progressing as it was supposed to. Her memories were being recorded and downloaded. Then he saw an image on the screen that made him gasp. If what he saw was true then there was far more to this mutant than he originally suspected.
Cheney, of course, vexed him. Her monitor showed only static. Although within the static was a vague image of her singing. She was resisting the Sifter. He increased the output. The light beam striking her head grew brighter. Cheney jerked and thrashed with more vigor. But the static remained. Borrat increased the level again. And again. And again.
By this time Dazzler's treatment had been completed. The Shifter automatically shut down and the mutant's body slumped. She had passed out.
Lila Cheney was drenched in sweat and was now sobbing as well as screaming. Her bound body shaking like mad. But STILL the screen showed static.
Borrat increased output levels again and again. Finally, after the eighth power increase, Lila Cheney's resistance was broken. No longer able to scream, tears gushing from her eyes, the screen now showed images of Cheney's life from birth on up. Once the download was completed the machine shut down and subject also passed out.
Leaving the unconscious women where they were Borrat went to the Shifter consoles and began to review the collected data. Borrat didn't have to see their ENTIRE lives. Just ask the computer questions which would be answered by the memories now stored within.
Later Borrat's voice came over the intercom.
"Knorrn."
"Sir."
"Set course and proceed to Rogg. Lila Cheney just confessed her crime."
Knorrn began the process for departure and asked, "What of the other one?"
"I believe her to be a potential threat to the Skrull Empire. Therefore her fate will be the same as the thief's."
"Course laid in. Breaking orbit for launch window." Was Knorrn's only response.
Shortly the invisible Skrull saucer reached the launch window and then accelerated to and beyond the speed of light. The stealth mode was deactivated, as it was no longer needed, while the ship warped its way toward the borders of home.
